About this event

Join us to create, update and improve Wikipedia articles about all things arboreal, including notable trees from history and literature. In addition to editing articles, if you are a photographer please consider adding your tree photos to Wikimedia Commons, so these images can be added to illustrate Wikipedia articles.

To get things started we are holding an online launch event, via Zoom, on Saturday 15th May, starting at 11:00 BST. No previous Wikipedia experience is necessary; this is a friendly, open and welcoming environment to try your hand at some editing!

We will provide lists and links to online resources and tutorials explaining how to edit Wikipedia. These will cover the principles of contributing to Wikipedia. Plus the basics of creating and editing articles. Including how to create a user page, conflicts of interest, talk pages, how to edit in sandbox, notability, reliable sources and neutral point of view.

Please use use #wiktreepedia on social media to share details of your work in progress, including links to tree related articles that you create or improve during the festival. Also follow the British Library’s Digital Scholarship blog, which will showcase and celebrate created, updated and improved Wikipedia tree articles.

At the end of the Urban Tree Festival, we will celebrate the fruits of our labours at a Show & Tell event on Sunday 23rd May at 11:00 BST.
